Going To Canada, But In A Dilemma (Hey That Rhymes!)

I haven’t really talked about this so far, but I’m heading up to Queens University in Kingston, Ontario on August 24th for exchange. I originally wanted to leave on the 22nd of August so I could celebrate my birthday here, and then land on the 22nd and celebrate it again, but oh well, no seats.

So the dilemma surfaces here: Should I get an overseas internship but graduate in December ‘09, or come back and graduate asap in April ‘09, and find a job.

Getting the overseas internship is not for the sake of it being overseas. It’s that the true thought leaders in social media are most active in North America, and a short stint there would be beneficial to me.

However, that will mean being away from SMU for 16 months, and a lot can change from then. I already can barely stand certain aspects of the school, and who knows what the economic outlook will look like in December ‘09/Jan ‘10? People may not even want to hire a social media specialist/strategist by then.

What would you do if you were me?

  1. Duh, stay.

  2. stay at SMU la.. im in dilemma of graduating 3.5 or 4 yrs but with an extra track in finance if 4 yrs…. DILEMMAS!! or another is do 3.5 and take 6 months internship in case i dont find an ideal job

  3. @Kel: Stay means…. finish SMU?

@Deeraj: Haha if I get that internship and stay overseas, I’ll be graduating in 4.5 years! Can you imagine that! Thx for dropping by ;)

  4. if u think the overseas internship will do u good, do the overseas internship.

so what if u grad in 4.5 years, it’s not like u’re slacked the 4.5 years away. u prob have accomplished a lot more than those who grad in like 3.5 years.

    i’m confident that u’d find a job then. :D

    have fun in canada u.

  5. @Dottie: Yeah I know! But 8 months extra is just… a long time. And not like SMU is the best and coolest place to be right now also. Sigh. Thanks I will!
