Formal Clothes And I Just Don’t Mix

Today I headed back to the wonderful MTV offices to pass a photo for the upcoming MTV Asia Awards, and everyone I met thought I looked weird in formal.

Same thing happened a few weeks ago when I headed down to SMU to collect my (broken) laptop. I walked past three friends and one professor and none of them recognised me!

Now I don’t mind wearing formal when I need to, but even then none of my formal tops are plain. At least some form of colour or design is a must. However I must say I feel a little bit more stifled and less creative when I’m in formal. Makes me feel like I’m older than I should be.

This isn’t me saying I need to dress sloppy though. You’re almost as likely to see me in berms and slippers as you are to see me in pants and shoes. That is, not at all. T-shirt, jacket, jeans and sneakers are all I need to be comfortable and productive.

On a side note, talking to Weikeng today about the MTV Asia Awards got my adrenaline going. Don’t get me wrong I enjoy what I’m doing at my current job a lot, but I love music and by extension, MTV. Living out of a hotel room for 10 days, dealing with Asian artistes I may not necessarily know? Awesomeness.

Now that that’s out of the way, anyone with an informal dress code at work wants to hire me?

  1. I’ve proven the theory that you are not recognizable in formal wear; wrong!

    *chuckles*

how about cutting your hair a bit? so you won’t look so - kid-dish ;)

  2. @Hisham: Yes first one! Haha when I cut my hair (like at SMB 1) ppl say it’s gross!
