First Day Of Work At MTV (Again!)
Just got back from my first day of work back at MTV. I started the day at 10am and ended at 8:45pm.
“What?” you say? “So late?” you ask?
The truth is I hardly even noticed that it was so late because
a) MTV is a truly comfortable place to be and hang out
b) I had so much work to do it didn’t occur to me to check the time.
I kinda miss having my table and having Ralph and Eve around, but working with the familiarity that is Chee Meng and Wei Keng and catching up with the interns kinda negates that feeling a little bit.
It’s almost hard to explain this stuff in words. A lot of it is overwhelming because I’m coming in smack in the middle of the prep, but the chaotic nature of the office is almost welcoming. I probably zapped more papers today than I did during my internship, but we all kinda know what has to be done.
If I went any further I’d probably start saying things like it’s the desire to put out a great show that has us working so hard or our passion for music or the love of the brand blahblah. Not that it’s not true, but it just sounds cheesy.
So here’s the takeaway: Work somewhere that makes you happy.
ps: The performers who will be at the MTV Asia Awards this year is still confidential, but trust me when I say, you probably won’t be disappointed! Stay tuned for more news
edit: One other thing that I really enjoy is that I’m given quite a lot more to do in terms of work and responsibilities. It’s liberating in the sense that they’re literally empowering me and saying “Go speak to the production manager of Band A and organise this”, and also very scary because I think the brand “MTV” carries with it a certain “legacy” and standard, and I’d hate to be the one that doesn’t live up to it. I really need to give credit to MTV for allowing the youth some leeway in the company.
Whether it’s what I’m doing now with liaising or previously where they entrusted me to literally be in charge of hours and hours of what is shown on the channel every day, it’s been great that they show lots of trust in the people they employ.
