How Long Should You Wait When Swapping Numbers With A Girl?

I’ve heard the conventional wisdom is to contact the girl after two days to show you’re not disinterested, but at the same time you’re not overly interested (even though you might very well be). I liken this to a job interview or meeting someone important that you want to stay in contact with. Would you wait two days?

Last night I was at Zouk and a friend of mine (who I shall not name) met another friend of mine and started talking, oblivious to everyone else. When she finally got home, she smsed me to say he’s really nice and yaddayadda and said “Well he has my number, he’ll contact me if he wants”.

Luckily, the smart boy did it before the end of the night.

Little known fact: I’ve never really picked up a girl at a club. But I’d imagine that if I did swap numbers with someone, contact should be made fairly quickly without having to worry about appearing “over interested”. I like to think we’ve moved on from pretentious to sincere.

But of course, this is just me. Feel free to disagree when you post a comment! Ladies, when would be the best time for him to make second contact?

  1. Immediately after he sends her home (if he does), with a text thanking her for her company and expressing casual interest to meet up again. Can’t be arsed with mind games.

  2. totally agree with Le Raine. excellent way to show you’re sincere and nice too.

  3. i dont think it’s a gd idea to swap numbers in clubs. u r probably intoxicated, not thinking clearly, n gonna regret it.

since when has shouted-over-loud-music introductions been a gd way to meet ppl who might turn out to be someone potentially suitable (assuming ur friend is looking for a partner) (unless of course he goes for that kind of thing).

but i digress. the answer to ur question is, if u might not see her again since u might not know any of her friends, then take the number immediately lah! life’s too short to spend wasted waiting for and playing mind games.

  4. …going to agree with the no mind games man! I see no point in complicating things and sincerity always wins the day. (=

  5. @Le Raine, Reuben & Dor: Correct No mind games! Yay for matured thinking! Haha!

@Daphne: I agree with that for random people! But if it’s friends of friends, I think it’s cool! (plus I don’t shout it over the dance floor. usually it’s outside)

  6. Texting the next day while sober would be the safest.
