My New York Meepok Post (With Videos From The New Flip Cam!)

No I didn’t find Meepok in New York (though I think if I really wanted to I probably could), but this is one of my few attempts at doing a Meepok post (ie a “how my day went/what I did today” post) to amuse everyone and maybe embarrass me.

So my day started at 6:30am because I slept at 6:50pm the previous night in an attempt to get rid of jet lag and I’m pretty sure it worked since it’s almost 11pm and I’m still pretty awake. I got some breakfast (damn forgot to take photo) and started working on some stuff for Canada, nothing exciting. Next came a 10am web appointment, the details of which I shall not disclose here.

Heading out I decided to take this video with my Canon IXUS 860 IS, just as a means of comparison with my Flip Cam which I was determined to get today.

After getting the Flip Cam I walked around for a little bit before I was hit by the need to go to the toilet! So here’s a piece of advice to anyone who may head to New York: Use the bloody toilet before you go, because the odds of you finding a place with a toilet is low. I managed to find one at Borders, where they were also pimping the hell out of the “Twilight” books. Yeahbuwha?

Anyway, I eventually wound up at Cosi Cafe which is my favourite chain of cafes in New York (oh another interesting story on that tomorrow) and after I ate and rested for a bit, it was time to test out the new Flip Cam.

As I headed towards the comic shop, there was this homeless guy on the street, so I stopped and gave him my packet of chips from Cosi (you saw them in the picture earlier). I felt good about myself until I turned around the corner, where there was another dude who could’ve used some help. I kinda felt bad that I didn’t have more food to give and that I couldn’t give something to everyone. I bet this comes from my mom.

Next up: Pinkberry! So here’s the story, I was introduced to Pinkberry by the Kudus sisters when I was in LA last December. The New York branch is no less crowded!

Here’s the store.

Here’s the yogurt (complete with raspberries and fruity pebbles).

Oh and here’s a busstop poster for Heroes Season 3: Villains. Ando gets his own poster!

I started heading down for the Comic Book Club which is this weekly roundtable or panel discussion that serves as an extension to The Stack Podcast. It cost $5 and was about an hour and a half of pure comic book talk. The inner geek in me was very thrilled, especially considering we have nothing like this back home in Singapore.

That all ended at about 9:30 and I got back to the hostel at about 10pm and here I am with my very nutritious dinner.

Dinner!

Oh and before I go, here is a picture specially for Reuben (though I suppose the impact is less now)

Rock Band for the Xbox 360!

SURPLISE!

Final verdict: After Youtube compression I suppose the difference in quality between the two videos is negligible. Still, for US$150 the Flip Cam is pretty neat and it takes an hour of photos and is really tiny. Great for on-the-go interviews or travel videos as well as capturing impromptu fun. I’d definitely recommend it, especially for us blogger types. I’m no Sheylara or Nadnut who use video a lot on their blogs, so I’m not that comfortable with camwhoring myself to the world (yet), but I foresee I will be posting a lot more videos after this!
