Kingston, as I have mentioned before, is a really small place. We kinda have one downtown and another mall about half an hour away and that’s about it. One cinema in the immediate area.

But therein lies its’ charm. People who have been to/know about Singapore ask me if I like it here, and more often than not are shocked when I reply that I love it here! They’re surprised that small, 117,000 population Kingston could compete with the 4.5million city of Singapore.

But despite the lack of a Levi’s or a Guess or a H&M (and personally for me, a proper bookstore), it’s really awesome to live close to everyone else. Plus anyway, Amazon solves all problems. It’s hard for you to imagine if you’re not here, but essentially envision a school in the centre, and more or less most things are within 20 minutes (on foot) of that centre.

That also means everyone living here, is so close to each other, which makes for really good community living. Even in small Singapore, saying “come over for dinner” involves a decent amount of logistical issues, here “wanna come over for a drink” can literally mean “wanna walk 5 minutes to get a drink?”. It’s something that I really appreciate.

Living near to school, as my British and Irish friends would say, allows me the luxury of “rolling out of bed into class”, which is very good for the early morning classes.

Here are two videos I took today. The first show my immediate neighbourhood and trying to give you an idea of how far school is from me, the second shows Princess street, or our main “downtown” area. Hope you enjoy them!
