Stuff I Read In 2009

I did pretty well in 2009 with 28 books and 93 graphic novels.
Best book of the year was hands down Rant by Chuck Palahniuk, other worthy mentions include Death Star, the Horus Heresy, the Star Wars Legacy series and The Dip by Seth Godin.
On the graphic novel front, Avengers: The Initiative is a great book, [...]

Starbucked: A Quote

I finished reading Starbucked (a book that chronicles the rise of Starbucks over the years) over the weekend (at a Borders cafe, no less) and while I could go on about whether or not Starbucks represents cultural imperialism (I don’t think so), I instead want to share a great quote from the book:
“.. it employs [...]

Book Review: Rant By Chuck Palahniuk

It’s hard for me to review Rant by Chuck Palahniuk (author of Fight Club)without getting into specifics because the twists in the story are so surprising that I wouldn’t want to spoil it for anyone,  but suffice to say that after one read, this book has instantly shot up to one of my top five [...]

Book Review: Assassin’s Quest By Robin Hobb

Book Review: Assassin's Quest By Robin Hobb

I finally got down to finishing Assassin’s Quest by Robin Hobb after something like two and a half months of reading, and the fact that I took that long is a sign that I didn’t enjoy the book a whole lot.
Assassin’s Quest is the final book in the Farseer Trilogy (the first two books being [...]

Packing My Stuff From Amazon

Packing My Stuff From Amazon

Since coming to Kingston, Amazon has consistently impressed me, leading to increased purchases from them.
Whaddya think? Did I overdo it?
I think I may just miss Amazon most of all when I go home.

Book Review: Royal Assassin By Robin Hobb

Royal Assassin is the second book in the Farseer Trilogy, a review of the first book, Assassin’s Apprentice, can be found here.
The story follows FitzChivalry after the ending of Assassin’s Apprentice and plunges him back into his world at Buckkeep amidst Regal’s ambitions for the throne, the Red-Ship Raiders, more Forged Ones and his love [...]

Book Review: Assassin’s Apprentice By Robin Hobb

Book Review: Assassin's Apprentice By Robin Hobb

After finishing reading A Clash Of Kings by George R. R. Martin, I was in the mood for some good fantasy and so I crowdsourced for recommendations. Robin Hobb’s Farseer Trilogy appeared too many times to be ignored, so I hopped on to Amazon.ca and gave it a go.
When I got the book, two things [...]

About Me: I Like Modern Stuff

A blog is supposed to be about me. I realise I share a lot about my passions: books, music, entertainment and comic books/graphic novels, but perhaps not a whole lot about myself. So here’s my first blog post about it.
I consider myself very much a kid of the ’80s and the ’90s. Not just because [...]

Book Review: Heroes – Saving Charlie (By Aury Wallington)

Book Review: Heroes - Saving Charlie (By Aury Wallington)

So the quote from earlier today actually came from the only Heroes book in existence (thus far) by Aury Wallington called “Saving Charlie“, which tells the story “in between episodes” way back in season one, when Hiro went back in time to save Charlie from Sylar (or as referred to in the book, Brain Man)
I [...]

Why Isn’t “Twilight” Popular In Canada?

Unlike in the US (and arguably back home), the Canadian bookstores aren’t pimping the “Twilight” series for all their worth.
In the always-fun Film 240 class, we were shown the trailer for the “Twilight” movie, opening later this year:

Afterwhich, we were polled on whether we would watch this movie, to which the answer was overwhelmingly no. [...]
