As promised last week, a non Take That post but not totally unrelated: this week it’s You Know Me by ex Take That member Robbie Williams.

Great song, fun video and definitely going to be one of my favourites of 2010. Definitely elicits a very “old school” vibe too – hope you like it as much as I do.

Music Mondays 61: Take That – Everything Changes

To wrap up the month-long Take That love fest, here is Everything Changes, complete with a lovely campy video of the boys back in the early ’90s.

Although the title of the song is Everything Changes, to me the key line in the song is

Though everything changes around us; we will be the same as before – forever more

And with their comeback in 2007/2008, the world has moved on a decade but Take That will forever be awesome!

Next week: back to our regularly scheduled programming (though I suspect we won’t be completely free of the Take That bug…..)

Music Mondays 60: Take That – Nobody Else

In the penultimate Take That week, here’s “Nobody Else”. The music video isn’t the actual video but rather following the boys through the ages -brings back memories!

I have to say on a personal note, I haven’t heard this song in a long time, and it’s taken on a whole new dimension listening to it now compared to over ten years ago. Enjoy!

When I was young (not all that long ago) the one CD that was in the car year in year out was the Carpenters Christmas album (a tradition that continues to this day) so I thought we’d end off the year with a final Christmas-themed Music Monday with a song from what I feel is one of the best musical acts of all times – The Carpenters:

Trivia:

The Christmas Song was first performed by Nat King Cole in 1946
It has since been covered by more than 150 other artists including Michael Buble, New Found Glory, Owl City and Weezer

I love this video. They’re so obviously parodying being “gangsta” and being so over the top (look at T-Pain’s “BIG ASS CHAIN”!) that it results in awesomeness.

Thumbs up to Taylor Swift for stepping so far out of her comfort zone (come on she’s classified as a country singer!) and thumbs up to T-Pain for doing this at the risk of losing his “cred”

Oh and check out this video of Taylor getting shocked during Halloween by Ellen Degeneres. Just watch it for 28 seconds. Hilarious!

Music Mondays XLVII: Lisa Scinta – Whatcha Say

Been a really long time since I did one of these YouTube artists, but I just happened to stumble upon Lisa Scinta’s rendition of Whatcha Say by Jason Derulo which samples Hide And Seek by the very talented Imogen Heap, I think this song captures both Whatcha Say and Hide and Seek perfectly, and her take on it is sublime! This girl deserves to be recording out of somewhere other than a bathroom!

Music Mondays XXXVII: Dancing To Chris Brown, Raising Money For A Good Cause, And Monetising Social Media

37 weeks into Music Mondays and this has got to be my favourite one yet. If you haven’t already, the first thing you need to do is watch this awesome video. If you’ve already watched it, watch it again!

This is what everyone and anyone who loves music wants to see. Two people dancing to a song like it’s the happiest day of their lives (and it probably is), shared with over 18 million people worldwide. How amazing is that?

And the thing is, for any less enlightened record label (I’m looking at you, Universal), the first step would have been “THAT’S 18 MILLION TIMES WE DIDN”T GET ROYALTY FOR PLAYING OUR SONG!” and sent a legal letter to the newlyweds demanding the video be taken down.

But no, the people who own the rights went on and ran ads parallel with the music video, encouraging viewers to buy the single with one click. According to the Official Google Blog, that made those smart (and deserving people) some money and as of this moment, Forever, a song that’s just about a year old, is back on the music charts.

On top of that, Jill and Kevin, the bride and groom, have leveraged this popularity for a good cause against domestic violence at jkweddingdance.com.

It really couldn’t be a happier story.

Love and marriage wins.

The music industry finally has a win.

A good cause wins.

And perhaps most importantly, social media wins.

Music Mondays XXXVI: Shazam

There have been quite a few editions of Music Mondays where I hear the song once while I’m driving and really like it but have no way of knowing what song it is. Especially if the DJ doesn’t mention the title or the artist. This used to be a big problem, but not anymore.

Enter: Shazam

Shazam is a free app for the iPhone that identifies music wherever you are, as long as you have an internet connection. All you have to do is hold your iPhone up to the music source, be it in the car, at a coffee joint or a store you’re at and tadah (or should I say, Shazam!) and the song gets identified and now you know what that elusive song is. Pretty nifty, eh?
