I write this post with the assumption that the Gunners possibly still end third on the table. If we end fourth, I’m going write something even more scathing this Sunday.

Watching the match last night, I felt like I was watching a team in the S-League. Passes were pathetic, runs were wasteful and finishing was non-existent. I don’t care what the critics say about Arsenal coming back from being written off twice this season, or how they have shown great “mental strength” in scoring late goals. We started with a scathing 7 goal victory at Everton and scoring goals galore, and somewhere along the way we managed to get kicked swiftly out of the Carling Cup, FA Cup, Champion’s League and race to win the league title.

What does it come down to? I think manager and players are equally at fault.

Arsene, it’s time to wake up. You’ve done great for the club but for all your ability to scout young players, you have done a piss poor job of selecting goalkeepers since David Seaman retired. According the the commentators Arsenal has let in 41 goals (so far) this season, our worst record since 2002 (I think that’s what he said). That says a lot about the goalkeeper, doesn’t it? Stop insisting Fabianski is capable of doing anything with balls apart from fondling his own, and shell out some money for a proper goalkeeper.

I’m not sure any of the players appreciate they’re playing for one of the top clubs in the world. Here we have players like Jack Wilshere loaned out to Bolton, while players like Samir Nasri and Abou Diaby are wasting time on the pitch. Say what you want about Manchester United, one of the things they have going for them are legends like Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes in the team who continually inspire everyone else on the pitch. Arguably, Sol Campbell is doing a good job of that for Arsenal and I dread to think what would have happened if he wasn’t re-signed for Arsenal this season.

The only players who I feel don’t deserve a good whipping are Thomas Vermaelen, William Gallas, Sol Campbell, Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie. Players like Theo Walcott and Nicklas Bendtner are capable of having one bad game, then scoring a goal in the next, and thinking they’ve proved their critics wrong. Sorry but you need to be a little more consistent than that. Bacary Sagna and Gael Clichy, the two of you need to learn how to cross. Rosicky and Nasri,  you’re not young players anymore and it’s time to fill the Pires/Ljungberg boots or get the hell out. Arshavin, we loved that four goal blitz you scored in the Liverpool game, but we haven’t quite seen enough of that since then, have we?

Every Arsenal fan knows what’s wrong with the team and either Arsene is too blind to see it, or to stubborn to acknowledge it. Either way, it’s yet another terrible year to be an Arsenal fan, as it has been since 2004.

For the first time in the years I’ve been supporting Arsenal, I’m feeling really disappointed in them – more specifically with Arsene Wenger.

There were signs that after 5 years without a trophy this could be it, but in the span of a few games we’ve been knocked out of the FA cup and on a downward spiral in the league that we seem unable to get the hell out of.

No one cares about clawing back from an 11 point deficit to get to top of the table for 4 days because it’s where you end up. Losing twice to Chelsea and twice to Man U is just not acceptable.

I’m sick and tired of repeating Almunia and Bendtner are wastes of space every week. Vermalen was a great buy but the January transfer window was the time to buy and I’m really sick of hearing the same excuses over and over again from Wenger.

In the early years it was no money, but we’ve sold Henry, Pires, Ljungberg, Toure, Vieira, Adebayor and Flamini and have never really replaced any of them. It wasn’t that long ago that players like Pires could score double figures a season but that seems long gone now.

Seriously what’s Wenger’s excuse for not bringing in a new goalkeeper? Arguably since David Seaman every first team ‘keeper has been sub par. And I’m not even asking for a “world class” keeper – at this point a Thomas Sorensen or Brad Friedel or even Joe Hart would be preferable to Almunia.

And up front, let’s please not delude ourselves that Bendtner is worthy of playing in an Arsenal shirt. Robin van Persie gets injured and we pin our striking hopes to win the title on him? Please.

The only thing good about this season is that Gallas and Vermalen have been mostly solid at the back. I don’t know what excuses a midfield with talent like Fabregas, Rosicky, Nasri, Diaby, Walcott, Song, Denilson and Ramsey have. Sagna needs to learn how to cross and our strikers like Arshavin and Eduardo have to just let loose and shoot.

As far as I’m concerned, only a miracle will save our season now and it’s back to the 2010/2011 season hearing the same tune in a different year.

I’m Arsenal till I die – but for once I’d like something to show for it.
